19-1077; Rev 0; 9/96 ±15k V ESD-Protected, EMC-pliant, 230kbps RS-232 Serial Port for Modems _______________General Description The MAX3186 is a plete DCE RS-232 serial port designed to meet the stringent ESD requirements of the European munity. All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15k V using IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge, ±8k V using IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge, and ±15k V using the Human Body Model. The MAX3186 has five RS-232 transmitters, three RS232 receivers, and no charge pump, optimizing it for operation in modem applications. It is guaranteed to run at data rates up to 230kbps, providing patibility with popular software for municating with personal puters. Power-supply current is less than 300µA for IDD and ISS, and less than 1m A for ICC.
